Uncover the colonial charm that oozes from the New World’s oldest city.
Sit back and soak up the tropical scenery on your way to Santo Domingo. Founded at the beginning of the 16th century, it’s the oldest city in the New World, and it’s brimming with colonial monuments.
You’ll make a photo stop at the majestic Faro a Colon, or Columbus Lighthouse – said to be the final resting place of Columbus. The light beams, emanating from this impressive lighthouse / mausoleum, can be seen from Puerto Rico!
You’ll also wander around the Colonial Zone, a UNESCO Site, and visit The Royal Houses, National Pantheon and the First Cathedral of the New World. Then do as the elegant ladies of the court once did, and stroll down the narrow, picturesque Calle Las Damas. This ‘Street of the Ladies’ was the first paved street in the Americas.
Afterwards, you can get down to some proper retail therapy, with free time at Columbus Plaza, and enjoy a snack on the ride back to your ship.
